One of the benefits of Squarespace is that your website is highly unlikely to be buggy. It isn’t open source, meaning that to create a tool for the platform, you have to be a Squarespace developer, but this ensures that the tools uphold the quality standards that they expect.
Squarespace websites aren’t free, but you can start with a 14-day free trial right off the bat. You don’t need to give your credit card details to register for the free trial either. However, you won’t be able to make your website live until you pay.
Let’s take a look at how to use Squarespace to build a website for your business.
Visit squarespace.com to get started. Click on the “Start a free trial” or “Create a Site” button on the center of the home page.
Use the list on the left hand side to narrow your search or browse through the templates provided on Squarespace. Choose one that you like the most to start designing your website. Make sure that you choose a design that will resonate with the audience you want to reach and engage.
Hold your mouse over the template you want to use and click the black “Start with (theme name)” button to move to the design editor. You can also preview it first to get an idea of how the website template will look like. Previewing will give you an accurate general idea of how your website will turn out to appear.
Once you choose a template, you’ll be greeted by Squarespace’s welcome message. Clicking on the “Start” button will lead you to the “Site Title” message. You’ll need to name your website on this screen. Make sure you choose a simple and snappy title for your business’ website.
Make your site description clear and concise. Come up with one that fits the style of your brand. You will likely also want to have one or two keywords/keyword phrases that defines your business in this description. You can use the editor to put format text in bold, italic, etc.
Use the left sidebar to write, edit and customize different parts of your Squarespace site. Designing your website on Squarespace is simple and straightforward. You can click on the “Help” tab in case you have any issues designing the website the way you want it.
Squarespace requires you to be a paying customer if you want to publish your website live on the internet. If your free trial hasn’t ended and you want to publish your website right away, you can click on the blue “UPGRADE NOW” button on the bottom center of the page. Once you are a paying customer, you can click the Publish button to make it live.
For a regular website, the options are “Personal”, which is simpler, or Business, which can be adapted for any kind of business. Switch to the “Online Stores” tab if you want to sell products or services and select your option there.
