With over 2.8 billion active users, Facebook offers businesses a large market to target for their goods and services. With Facebook, businesses can focus on marketing directly towards particular demographics including age, geography, interests, and behaviors.

When compared to traditional advertising techniques, using Facebook advertising as a tool is comparatively inexpensive and highly targetable to a particular audience. Businesses can get the opportunity to connect with their customers, create communities, and create brand awareness. With the ability to increase website traffic, Facebook oftentimes can increase sales and revenue for a company, all while improving customer interaction and loyalty.

The best way for businesses to engage with their customers on Facebook, they can create a Facebook Business Page. This offers a forum for client involvement and interaction and enables businesses to post updates, promotions, product information, and other content to their followers.

A Facebook Business Page is a separate entity from a personal Facebook profile and was created with the express purpose of helping businesses advertise their goods and services to a broader audience. It can be personalized with details about the company, such as contact information, a map, operating times, and an explanation of the goods or services provided.

Businesses may track their page performance through Facebook Insights and launch advertising campaigns on their Facebook Business Page.

Here are 5 steps to get you started with creating a Facebook Business Page:

  1. You’ll need to create a personal Facebook account to manage your Business account if you do not have one already. Some business owners use their own Facebook accounts to do this, but if you’d prefer to keep it totally separate, use your business email to create a separate personal account for your business.

Once that’s done, you can log into the personal account to create what’s called a Facebook Business Page.

One way of doing this is to click the menu icon on the top of your feed page and then click “Pages”.

  1. Add your business information to the page. You’re going to want to be thorough here. The more accurate the information you have on your business page, the more likely you will be in having success utilizing and converting from the page.

To create the page, be sure to add your business name and category of business. Then once your page has been created, you can add in all the other information customers will need. Don’t forget to add your website URL!

Other important information that we’ve seen businesses have success in highlighting are keeping up to date hours of operation, the location of the business and high quality images for the profile/cover photos. Make your business description concise and snappy.

  1. Add a profile and cover picture that accurately reflects your business. Maybe it’s your logo, storefront, or your team members at a recent event. Be sure to add photos to your page relatively quickly. Profiles without images can make your business page look like a scam. We recommend using the right image sizes, too (note: these sizes have been known to change from time to time, so make sure you’re checking the images when you use the page):
  1. Profile photo: 170px x 170px
  2. Cover photo: 851px x 315px
  1. What do you want customers to do when they get to your page? If the purpose of your page is for customers to book services, order online or sign up for an email newsletter, edit the action button at the top of your page to reflect whatever it is you are looking to encourage your customers to do.

  1. Adjust your page tabs to best showcase your business. Hide any sections that are irrelevant to your company, and highlight those that you want customers to have access to. Click the “More” button on your tab banner and then “Edit tabs” to change it up.

  1. Create posts! Post engaging and informative content. This can include updates about your products or services, industry news, or  behind-the-scenes glimpses of your business.

Once your Facebook Business Page is up and running.

  1. Add another admin to your page! This is really simple to do once you’re on your business page. On the bar to the left of the page, you’ll see “Page Roles”, where you can assign a role to another person on Facebook. Simply add the name or email, click “add” and you’re all set! Scroll to the bottom of the page to adjust role settings, when necessary.

  1. You might want to consider using Facebook Ads. Facebook Ads allows you to target specific demographics and interests, and can be a cost-effective way to reach potential customers. Businesses can decide from a selection of ad formats, including image, video, carousel, and more, enabling companies to select the format that best suits their objectives and target audience. Facebook advertising can be viewed on a variety of devices, including desktop, mobile, and tablet computers, giving businesses a broad reach, and ad analytics can allow businesses to identify what campaigns and formats work best for them.

To learn more about Facebook Ads, click the link to the left of the page “Ad Center” and click “Get Started”.

  1. Facebook Insights is a free analytics tool that provides data on the performance of your business page. Use this data to understand what's working and what's not, and to make informed decisions about your content strategy.

A link to this lives in the sidebar of your admin dashboard, under “Insights.”
