Attach post images and video

What images and video can I attach to a post?

You attach one set of media and it is shared across every platform you selected — the composer says so under the drop zone. That is the rule behind most rejections: your post has to satisfy the strictest network in the selection, not the most generous one.

The composer tells you the rule before you upload

The Photo and Video section of the composer with a platform tab strip on the left and Google's rule reading one image, JPG or PNG, max 5 MB, beside the Photo and Video mode buttons

The tab strip on the left is one tab per selected platform, and the text beside it is that platform's rule. Click through the tabs before you upload and you'll know the answer without guessing. Photo and Video switch the mode.

What each network takes

  • Google Business Profile — 1 image, JPG or PNG, up to 5 MB. No video at all.
  • Facebook — up to 10 images, JPG/PNG/BMP/TIFF/WEBP, 10 MB each; or 1 video, MP4 or MOV, up to 4 GB.
  • Instagram — up to 10 images, JPG or PNG, 8 MB each; or 1 video, MP4 or MOV, up to 100 MB. Instagram will not accept a post with no media.
  • Threads — up to 10 images, JPG or PNG, 8 MB each; or 1 video, MP4 or MOV, up to 100 MB.
  • LinkedIn — 1 image, JPG/PNG/GIF, up to 5 MB; or 1 video, MP4, up to 5 GB.
  • X — up to 4 images, JPG/PNG/WEBP, 5 MB each; or 1 video, MP4, up to 512 MB.
  • Pinterest — 1 image, JPG or PNG, up to 20 MB. Standard pins take no video, and a pin needs an image.
  • Bluesky — up to 4 images, JPG/PNG/GIF/WEBP, 1 MB each; or 1 video, MP4, up to 50 MB. The 1 MB ceiling is unusually low.
  • TikTokvideo only, 1 video, MP4 or MOV, up to 2 GB. It will not take an image-only post.

Google's single-image limit is the one that bites most often, because Google is in almost every local post. Select Google alongside Facebook and your ten-image gallery becomes one image for both.

The four rules that reject a post

No mixing images and video in the same post. Not on any network. Pick one.

Three networks require media. Instagram and Pinterest need at least one image; TikTok needs a video. Select any of them and a text-only post won't publish.

Two networks won't take video. Google Business Profile, and Pinterest's standard pins. If video is the point of the post, leave those out of the selection.

Facebook carousels are a separate mode. Two to ten image cards, no video, and each card can carry its own headline, description and link.

Where the files come from

Drag and drop, browse from your machine, paste a URL, or pick from Unsplash without leaving the composer.

Watch out for

A draft still enforces these rules. You can save a draft with no message written, but not one with eleven images or an image and a video together — drafts skip the "is it finished" checks, not the "is it valid" checks.
